Health hazard
Chettiyar Kulam is located behind Panchayat Union Middle School in Adirampattinam. Since it is in the heart of the town, sewage channels from all neighbouring streets drain their water here. The pond has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and poisonous insects. Students studying in the school and residents are in danger of getting infected. The middle school does not have a playground. Hence, authorities should take steps to provide proper drainage to route the sewage water. The unused pond can be converted into a playground.

Branch library in bad shape
The branch library is located near the eastern border of Adirampattinam. This forces people living in other areas to travel more than 2 km to visit the library. There is no proper furniture and lighting facility.
The reference book count is minimal.
Only two sections, dailies and magazines, are functioning.
The officials concerned to should take appropriate steps to improve the standard and enhance the infrastructure of the library.

Speed up!
There are a large number of BSNL Broadband (DataOne) users in and around Adirampatinam. People generally prefer the state-owned BSNL to private companies since it provides a variety of reliable services. Nevertheless, the most of the broadband users in Adirampattinam feel that the connection often gets disconnected and the speed is very slow in recent days for reasons not known.
Hence, I request the BSNL authorities to take immediate steps to ensure full speed of DataOne connection in order to retain the customers.

ATM wanted
I wish to bring to notice the non-availability of ATM for Adirampatinam branch of Indian Bank. Adirampattinam Branch of Indian Bank is one of the busiest of branches. Although the bank has issued ATM cards to thousands of customers, it does not have a machine. Transactions are performed manually. Moreover, customers have to wait for many hours to complete a single transaction or enquiry in the branch.
The branch is presently understaffed. These conditions cause inconvenience to the public. I request the Indian Bank authorities to expedite installation of ATM.

Re-lay road
Salt Line Road of Adirampattinam connects Pillaimar Street and NH-ECR. The road belongs to the Salt Department of the Central Government and it has been neglected over the years.
As a result, the road has been eroded by rainwater and lost its original shape. Now we cannot ride even a two-wheeler on this road. There is a possibility of fatal accidents.
In this area, two major central government offices, viz. the BSNL Telecom Exchange and the Indian Meteorological Research Station are situated. Therefore, the people living on the low-lying area on both sides of the road, the employees, and the passersby face hardship every day while using the road.
The authorities should repair and re-lay the road.

Expedite NH work
The ongoing National Highway work between Nagapattinam and Tuticorin is being carried out by IRCON International. Along the highway between Adirampattinam and Muthupet, motorists have to take many diversions due to incomplete works. At some places, the proposed bridge construction work is not even started. There are a number of dangerous curves following the diversion. The people have to travel on the roads which are in a bad condition. This may lead to many accidents. I request the authorities concerned to complete the pending work at the earliest.

ATM service
Canara Bank is the first bank in the coastal town of Adirampattinam. As of now, the bank has two ATMs, one at the branch and the other at the railway station. Unfortunately, the ATM at the latter has been closed owing to suspension of train services on the line. Moreover, the main ATM at the branch office near the bus stand does not work frequently for various reasons. A new and third ATM can be opened at the Chekkadi area which is in the heart of the town because most account holders reside here.

Expedite gauge conversion
The long-pending demand of BG line between Tiruvarur and Karaikudi via Thiruthuraipoondi, Adirampattinam, Patukkottai has been delayed for reasons not known. The suspended train service on the line for the conversion work has recently resumed. People residing in this region prefer train to bus service while travelling to Chennai. Since there has been no direct train to Chennai over the years, they are put to hardship. Hence I request the Railway authorities to take urgent steps to start gauge conversion work on the line for the benefits of the passengers.

Water scarce
Adirampattinam is one of the fast-growing towns. Most houses have high-power motors to pump drinking water. Excess potable water is used for various purposes. As a result, consumers without motor pumps cannot get adequate water.
This happens despite surplus water being supplied by the Adirampattinam Town Panchayat.
In some areas, the drinking water is salty and mixed with sewage water. I request the authorities to ensure supply of water to every household.

Market in bad shape
The Taqwa market is the main marketplace located in the heart of Adirampattinam town. Mutton and chicken stalls, fish tables and vegetable shops are clubbed together besides other petty shops. In this market, there is no proper drainage facility for waste and dirty water. Rotten fruits and vegetables and plantain leaves are heaped in the way. Garbage and cow-dung lie everywhere. This causes germ-infested environment in and around the area. Most shops have thatched roofs and those of others are in a dangerous condition. Vendors from adjoining villages are unable to maintain their workplace. The authorities and officials concerned to should take appropriate steps to improve the sanitary condition and enhance the basic infrastructure of the market.

Set up farmers’ market
Adirampattinam is one of the fast-growing towns. It is encircled by a number of agricultural villages. Farmers have to visit the town everyday to market their produces. However, the farmers find it difficult to get reasonable prices for those commodities. Moreover, the prices of fruits and vegetables are higher here than that in other places. Hence, the State Government may consider establishing a full-fledged Uzhavar Santhai at Adirampattinam so that both the farming community and the people of the town would be benefited.

Reopen farm centre
The Agriculture Extension Centre, behind the Bus Stand in Adirampattinam, has remained locked over the years. Though it was rebuilt a few years back, the centre did not start functioning. Due to the closure of the AEC, the agriculturists and tree-growers in and around Adirampattinam are unable to get timely advice to augment yields. They have to face much hardship and visit other centres. The authorities of Agricultural Department to should take immediate steps to reopen and enhance the infrastructure of the AEC.

New taluk
Adirampattinam is the largest and fast-developing Town Panchayat in Thanjavur district. Formation of a new taluk with Adirampattnam as its headquarters is one of the long-awaiting demands of the people residing in and around the town. It may be done by bifurcating Pattukkotai Taluk. Some areas of Sethubavachatram Panchayat Union of Peravurani Taluk might also be joined to the new taluk. This will help to cater to the growing needs of the people and eventually get more amenities. Hence, the administrative authorities of the State government may consider creating a new taluk of Adirampattinam.

Post office location
The main post office at Adirampattinam is located opposite a college. There was a town post office at Chekkadi, a central place of the town, which was closed two years ago. Now public have to travel about 2 km to reach the present post office. Moreover, there is no enough place and furniture to sit and write the letters at the main post office. Therefore the authorities should take steps to improve the facilities at Adirampattinam Post Office and provide all necessary services including the sale of exam forms.

Bus service
The 75 kilometre-long SH-66 runs between Adirampattinam and Kumbakonam via Madukkur and Mannargudi. Most of the buses skip the actual route to reach the two destinations. As a result, students and commuters, who have to travel in this way, have to face much hardship everyday. To overcome this problem, the TNSTC should ply more buses in this route. It will be beneficial to the public if the Highways Department considers converting SH-66 into a National Highway which will connect NH-ECR at Adirampattinam and NH-45C at Kumbakonam.

Private bus fare hike
In Tamil Nadu, there is no bus fare hike. Some private bus operators have, however, recently raised the fare between Adirampattinam and Pattukkottai from Rs.4 to Rs.5. Only the State-run point-to-point buses plying between Adirampattinam and Pattukkotai collect Rs. 5 for the purpose. Due to this increase, the travelling public has been put to much hardship.
